Welcome to the Word Spark blog!

I hope you are reading this because you share a passion for communicating - or educating - or creating.

Word Spark is about all three. I would be really happy if this blog can generate conversation, dialogue and critical thinking around the way we use words for business, for personal growth and for creating dramatic art forms.

I am inspired by the work of Augusto Boal and Paolo Freire. I do believe that developing dialogic talk is key to empowerment, critical change and positive relationships. We don’t need to agree with one another all the time but we can gain a greater understanding of thinking, which differs from our own ways of thinking, if we approach dialogue with openness and a desire to listen.  Thinking about the words we use can be illuminating. I agree that words deserve respect. And so does each one of us.

Words... They're innocent, neutral, precise, standing for this, describing that, meaning the other, so if you look after them you can build bridges across incomprehension and chaos. But when they get their corners knocked off, they're no good any more... I don't think writers are sacred, but words are. They deserve respect. If you get the right ones in the right order, you can nudge the world a little or make a poem which children will speak for you when you're dead. Tom Stoppard, The Real Thing: A Play

Let’s look after our words!
